View Count:To deeply promote the integration of digital media technology with teaching and scientific research, Zhejiang University has launched the construction of a virtual audiovisual laboratory integrating XR (Extended Reality), VP (Virtual Production), and AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content). This laboratory aims to establish a high-level virtual production platform serving teaching, creation, and scientific research. With a focus on technological integration and process innovation, it provides advanced facilities and experimental environments for talent cultivation and scientific exploration in the field of digital media.
Technical Architecture and System Integration
Technologically, this XR studio integrates several industry-leading systems, forming a complete, efficient, and flexibly scalable virtual production workflow:
hecoos XR/VP System: Equipped with high-precision real-time rendering and virtual-real fusion shooting capabilities, it supports the real-time overlay of virtual scenes with real characters or objects during filming, achieving seamless visual integration. This provides a highly realistic visual environment for presenting teaching content and conducting scientific experiments.
U-MOCO Intelligent Motion Shooting System: Through trajectory planning and automated control, it enables precise shooting of complex moving shots. This system enhances the expressive freedom of cinematic language and is suitable for dynamic demonstrations, multi-angle scientific recording, and creative content production.
Showho Virtual Production Screen: Based on high-performance LED display technology, it offers a high-brightness, high-contrast immersive visual background, supporting real-time interaction and scene switching. This significantly enhances the sense of presence and operational intuitiveness during practical training and creative processes.

These three systems, through hardware-software coordination and workflow integration, establish a complete production chain spanning scene construction, motion control, and real-time presentation. While ensuring technological advancement, the design also emphasizes system stability and usability to meet the application needs of various scenarios and disciplines.
Functional Positioning and Application Scenarios
At the teaching level, the laboratory supports practical components of virtual production-related courses, where students can engage in hands-on training such as real-time compositing and virtual scene construction. In scientific research, the platform can be used for experimental validation in areas such as extended reality technology and real-time rendering algorithms. For content creation, the laboratory provides the foundational conditions for producing virtual production short films and experimental video works.

The completion of Zhejiang University’s XR Studio offers concrete hardware support and teaching scenarios for the practice of virtual production technology in higher education. The realization of this platform’s value will depend on the refinement of subsequent course development, the continuous maintenance and updating of the technical platform, and the collaborative depth among industry, academia, and research in the talent cultivation process. Its practical effectiveness will gradually be verified and demonstrated through long-term use in teaching and research.
